I have Frontier (formerly Verizon) FiOS in the Los Angeles area. 50/50 Internet + TV/STB + "upgrade fees" + taxes/surcharges - discounts = ~$157/mo.
1) The Set top box is flaky. TV service is mostly for my mother who just uses it to watch a few programs live and from the DVR. When it conks out, she worries that she broke something, and the only answer seems to be to unplug/wait/plug it back in and go through the full reset. I think the thing needs to be replaced
- Any tips to get this done with minimal pain? The nearest physical location is in Covina which 40+ miles away and forever in LA traffic so I am hopeful they will send a replacement out and provide a return box. Surfing the threads here I am not sure if they'll do anything at all so I'm looking to get as much information as possible to improve my chances
- Going to Roku or equivalent is not a great option for us since my mother's tv needs are pretty basic and learning all new procedures will be a pain in the neck for her. It is supposed to relax and entertain her and I'd just like it to do that reliably
2) Any chance of upgrades of either tv or internet in the present environment? I remember asking about a WiFi router upgrade a couple of years ago and being told they don't have anything fresher than the old Actiontec I've had forever. I get tons of junk mail from Spectrum but they don't jump out as being any better
