Hello,
I have recently re-joined the DSL world after many years of cable due to a move and no cable option here. I had two DSL lines installed with D2200D's (I believe it's called a second-connect) and I am running them through a multi-WAN router to try to attain as much performance as I can. I am quite a ways out as evidenced by even though I ordered 6mb plans, Frontier originally provisioned me for 3mb. When the tech was here I asked him to set it up for 6mb as I would like to try it and he agreed, knowing it wasn't the best setup with signals, but also knowing my inside wiring could play a part in the experience (20 years old) and I was planning to replace some. The tech did replace my NID as well while here.
I am planning to run a dedicated run to the DSL modems but for now I have just ensured that all jacks are in good shape with no obvious signs of damage and replaced the section from the NID to my first junction with Cat6.
My experience ranges from good speed and no problems at all, to slow speeds and frequent disconnects. Disconnects seem to be mostly on Line 1, though it has happened on Line 2 as well. I do reboot the modems when I think there is an issue and that usually clears it up for the time being, but I would classify the problems as frequent.
The types of numbers I'm getting are as follows:
Line 1:
ADSL_G
INTERLEAVED
DSL Speed: 5536 864
Margin: 6.6 12.0
Line Attenuation: 53.5 31.0
Transmit Power: 19.9 12.6
FEC Errors: 3249816 0
HEC Errors: 77 0
CRC Errors: 119 0
Line 2:
ADSL2
INTERLEAVED
DSL Speed: 4168 861
Margin: 6.6 10.2
Line Attenuation: 55.5 33.6
Transmit Power: 17.3 12.6
FEC Errors: 1740194 0
HEC Errors: 812 0
CRC Errors: 1890 0
These are fairly consistent numbers. For some reason Line 2 always connects at a lower speed (4mb vs 5+mb) and always at ADSL2 compared to Line 1 on ADSL_G. Most all the other numbers look similar, so it is confusing to me why the speed difference. The error count is after about 15 minutes of up-time. That is also concerning to me of course as it seems horrific.
My main questions are- after looking at these numbers, am I doomed to have to ask Frontier to drop me back down to a 3mb profile? Are the poor signals and high error counts indicative of that?
Or, will dropping me to the lower profile retain the problems and just result in slower speeds?
I am asking here first because I don't want to involve any techs and potentially make things worse without being able to go back to what I have now.
I appreciate any help/insight.
Thanks!
Adam
