The other day I noticed no dial tone on my home phone. Shortly thereafter, I started getting calls on my cell phone that I would usually get on my home phone. I used my wife's cell phone to call the home number and my cell phone rang. That answered one part of my question: somehow my home number is now forwarded to my cell phone. I have forwarded my home number to my cell in the past when we're in vacation, but I certainly haven't done that recently. When I checked the Frontier app, it said call forwarded was not turned on. I checked the TV set top box and saw the same thing. Saw the same thing when I checked the website. I thought there was a chance I could fix the problem by setting the app to forward calls, then turn it off. That did not do anything.
If I had to guess, I'd say that my phone service glitch happened when we had a power surge during an electrical storm the other day. My cable TV and internet are working just fine though. I have no idea why a failure of my Fios digital voice would cause my home number to forward to my cell phone, unless that's a fail-safe put into the system.
I suspect that my ONT needs to be reset. That's where I run into some concern. I don't want to call Frontier customer service for help. All indications are that I run the risk of having all of my services accidentally disconnected when they pull up my account. The ONT has a battery backup inside, so simply unplugging the ONT and plugging it back in probably won't work. I need to figure out how to disconnect the battery first. I'm just not sure where it is or how to go about doing that. Any suggestions?
