I was having issues with very slow service last week... its always slow, but that day it was slower than normal. Anyway I plugged in my frontier provided modem since they refuse to troubleshoot it if I don't, and gave tech support a call.
I got this crazy indian bhenchod on the phone who kept asking me if I had tried changing my 'channel' (referring to wifi channel) even though I told him at the beginning I'm wired directly in, and use another router for wireless(phones TVs etc.), and have no neighbors within 500yds or more to interfere with my wireless channel.
He then proceeds to toggle on the integrated wireless, and toggle off bridge mode (disconnecting the rest of my network from the internet) and asks me to try again, which of course is less than slow now that he TOGGLED OFF BRIDGE MODE! and doesn't work at all. I did humor him and try testing on frontier's shit box security problem riddled modem.... after grabbing my laptop and trekking down to where it connects with the network, and tested with ethernet connected directly to that, which of course was slower than my cisco modem, and confirmed yet again the problem was on frontier's end.
I should have just cussed him out and called it a day when he started taking liberties with my settings.
This bhenchod, or anyone at frontier should NEVER have this much control over a modem. This is why I will NEVER use any modem provided by frontier. Security holes out the ass.

DSL - No Ports Available
Hello Everyone!
Had some questions regarding Frontier DSL and what I am being told about to ports being available. Little back story, I moved into my current house almost 3 years and signed up for a DISH/Frontier package. Come move in day, DISH comes out and does there thing but no Frontier. Called them, come to find out there is no ports available for my area and I wouldn't be receiving service. So I moved on, went to AT&T Rural Internet Plan (4G) that worked good for that period but has become expensive and slow after throttling/depriotization.
Fast forward to about 2 months ago, see Frontier trucks digging out new trenches to the tower 1/4 mile from the house. Got word from my neighbor who spoke to them that the DSL Line was receiving a backhaul fiber line, blah blah blah. Neighbor gets Frontier again no issues, he came over from Verizon (4G), works great. I was waiting til January to make a decision since I had spoken to an AT&T engineer that said my 4G tower was receiving a multi-band upgrade as well as a backhaul on that same tower location. Got word today it was being moved to 2021.
Today. Called Frontier to set up an new DSL line. Same as before, told there was no ports available. Previous home owners had Frontier so I know the lines there, just need them to get me going. So I don't know where to go from here, would they have had to upgraded the DSLAM when they did the backhaul upgrades? Is it just bad luck that the times I call they have no ports available but my neighbor has no issue. Or is it something on Frontiers computer side that says they don't have anything available when they really do. Even the support people said I can only have phone...
Frontier support got me nowhere. Is there an escalation procedure I can follow to speak to a local Frontier rep, install guy, someone who can get me a correct answer. And if there are truly no ports available does anyone know how I can request or be notified of a line becoming available?
I really appreciate any help, thank you!

[FIOS] BPON ONT losing SYNC repeatedly
I've got a tech coming on Tuesday, but since Thursday last week we've had the BPON ONT (the old Verizon one) doing up and down.... every time the FAIL LED blinks red. Turning off the ONT completely (and disconnecting the battery) doesn't reliably bring it back online. Then it may come back online spontaneously, and stay online with services for 15 min. or a few hours. Then the cycle repeats, and may stay down for 6-12 hours then come back up on its own.
I'm concerned this is not the ONT but rather an upstream issue.... thoughts? When the tech gets here, if the ONT is up are they able to troubleshoot these intermittent issues? I would have imagined that the NOC would looks at the headend and see the flopping, but perhaps not.
Any input greatly appreciated.
BTW, I'm in telecom but in the VoIP side, not transport side.

Getting rid of the Frontier MoCA router and using my own.
So I'm trying to accomplish this task. I have an ONT that has an ethernet port on it, and I know that I can call Frontier and have them enable it, but do I need to do anything else on my router to make it work?
Ill be using a Cisco ISR 3945E Router.
Thanks in advance!

[FIOS] Slow download speed
I have 100/100 internet only with Frontier. Lately according to Speedtest.net I am only getting mid 20's down but getting close to 100 up. The download does not change much if am wired or on wifi but the upload does. I call tech support thinking something is wrong with my modem, they do a couple of resets and say they need to send out a tech. Tech was here today and plugs the computer directly into the modem and reads 100/100 or more. He tells me the "test" sights are not accurate...latency...blah, blah. A couple of weeks ago I was getting close to the advertised speed(wired). Something does not seem right. Thoughts?

[DSL] Is this my problem or Frontiers
I'm using PfSENSE for DSL and have for years with Frontier. For the past month can't stay connected for more than 10 minutes at a time. (Sadly I love where I live but Frontier is the only choice)
PFSENSE kicks these errors out constantly. I've called support numerous times. Tech came out once
last week and said all if fine. Which is complete BS. No Not all is fine.
Any help with this besides disabling monitoring ?
Anyway for Frontier to attempt to fix something for a change ?

Eero with FiOS
I purchased an eero system. I currently have the eero set in bridge mode connected to a lan port of the FiOS gateway(Ethernet from ONT) with the WiFi disabled. Everything seems to be working well. Is there any benefit of changing it so the eero does the routing and the FiOS gateway is set to bridge mode instead?

No offers from retention when cancelling
Was on 100/100 for $55/mo (including router fee). Was slated to go up to $65/mo in January, and retention didn't offer me anything to improve the rate. So I just went ahead and put in order to cancel at the end of the month. Will be charged $10 disconnect fee. Anyway, thought I'd post since I wasn't sure others are having luck with retention or not.
I'll be signing up for Xfinity 75/5 for $30/mo for 1 year, no install charges on xfinity since I have modem and wiring already in place.

[FIOS] Packet loss on PS4
I recently moved to another home, and I'm suddenly experiencing major packet loss on my PS4. I'm using the same Unifi APs + EdgeRouter Lite as before, same company (Frontier). This connection here is 75/75, but I don't see why that should make a difference vs my old 150/150.
I traced an IP related to a PS4 server, and measured that on PingPlotter. Major packet loss! But, if I measure google.com, the connection is much much stronger.

[FIOS] I'm having trouble swapping out my routers
Frontier router: NVG468MQ
My router: Linksys EA9500
ONT: FOG420(?)
Internet: Ethernet
Yesterday morning my network was fine. Internet was running through my EA9500 and the NVG468MQ was just sitting on a shelf. I had to move my gadget room and after unplugging everything and setting everything back up my internet was down. I could not get it to function through the EA9500. I hooked up the NVG468MQ and was able to get the internet going again. Wanting to go back to my router, I released the lease from the NVG468MQ, powered it down and switched the cord to the EA9500. Waited a bit and no internet. Tried to renew the lease through the EA9500, no internet. Reset ONT and waited, no internet. Switched the cord back to the NVG468MQ, no internet. Renewed the lease through the NVG468MQ, renew timeout, no internet. Reset the ONT, finally got internet...
Maybe during the move, something happened to my router. So I grab another router I had laying around (Netgear WNDR4500v2) repeat all the steps and end up with the same result. I can only get internet through the NVG468MQ.
I call Frontier tech support and tell them I'd like to change my routers, that I need them to release and renew the IP. The guy tells me that wouldn't do anything. That I just need to move the cord to the new router and everything should work. Explain that I've done that and he tells me they don't support 3rd party routers and he can't help...
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
Thanks

Frontier Arris NVG468MQ Transparent Bridge Mode- how to disable WiFi
I have ONT (Ethernet) 200/200 Frontier Fios. I recently picked up the ORBI rbk50 router and satellite kit and for the most part it has been successful - blazing speeds and great coverage.
However - I've had issues with random dropouts since it's been online with the ethernet cable plugged directly into the WAN port. I just brought the Arris router back online in the hopes this will improve matters and I currently have it in Transparent Bridge mode.
Everything seems ok but I each time go through my config - I reset to factory, disable wifi and then enable the transparent bridge it then automatically re-enables both the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi.
I can re-connect via wireless to the wifi but cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect back into the Bridged Arris - any help would be appreciated.

[Internet] 50/50 and 500/500 Price difference $130 per month ?
Parents have a triple play (tv, phone and 50/50 internet with appears to be 3 year term) with base price for the 3 services around $185. Call up to inquire about speed upgrade since I see promos about going to the next tier for $5 more a month (I'm authorized to to discuss the account and make changes). I am told the speed can be increased to 500/500 for $10 more (which I was thinking it would be upgrade to 75/75 for $5). So order is placed. Later parents get order confirmation showing base price increasing to $290.
I call back the next day and am told the order email is incorrect and base price is around $200. I call again the next week to confirm again.. Price is around $200. Stop at a store location... Price is around $200.
Get the next bill, it shows base price of $290. I call back and this time person says price is right, but for my trouble and given wrong info, he will apply a one time credit and apply a credit for the next year, making the base price $180.
Get the next bill, I see the one time credit, and partial credit for the year credit, making the base price $240 instead of the $180, I was told. I call back and am told that there is nothing that would allow them to apply that much of a promo credit to make base price of $180 for the next year and while the internet increase is $10 was correct, but because there was tv and phone service, the increase was more like $70. When i mentioned then the base price should have been around $255 instead of $290, I was told that was incorrect.
Instead of continuing to argue, I said to put the internet back to 50/50. The order confirmation comes thru showing base price of the triple play being $160 per month, with an additional $30 credit being applied (on top of) for the next year.
Has anybody seen this issue?

QOS upstream unable to modify for online gaming
I've always been having very bad ping spikes throughout many years of online gaming and barely found out that prioritizing your system (I'm a PC gamer) to high will make most of the packet loss and ping spikes go away, but I am unable to modify such properties on the QOS upstream, It's just grey and doesn't let me change the values, and don't know the best settings for online gaming. I have watched many videos and read many forums, but most aren't very helpful to me. I have the Actiontec GT784WNV model gateway.
I just need help with this, because online gaming is no longer playable for me hence while I only play single player games now.
