Hi all,
About six months ago, we were able to upgrade our DSL service; but, it has been nothing but problems since. For several years we ran at 3Mbps with hardly any issues. Then we found out that Frontier had "upgraded" the infrastructure in our area and could now get 12Mbps. This would be through bonded lines.
The first week, we were actually getting 16Mbps, but after a few days the connection randomly dropped throughout the day. A modem reset would fix it temporarily. We then called a tech to the house. They dropped us down to 12Mbps and said the signal to noise ratio was too high. This temporarily resolved the issue, but after a few days it was right back to the same random and frequent dropping.
We dealt with it for a few weeks, and even tried a replacement modem but we had to schedule another tech.
This tech said something about the lines back at the CO were reversed... and he was able to correct them. Again, this seemed to fix the issue for a couple of days, but alas, it went right back to dropping out.
What's odd is during all this, not only would the WAN connection drop, but the router would occasionally kick us off Wi-Fi and say our password was incorrect. We'd enter the right password and it still would not let us rejoin until we restarted the modem. The model is NVG443B.
Now granted, sometimes it can go a few days without dropping, but then suddenly it'll start dropping again 10 times during a day.
So I am not sure if there is an issue with that particular modem or it's something on Frontier's side that they don't know how to fix. This has been super frustrating, now even more so with the COVID-19 situation.
I think my next step is to try a different model modem/router. Can anyone recommend a model that would work good with Frontier bonded DSL?
Also, if I end up calling Frontier, how can I explain this to get them to actually do something?
TLDR; Frontier Internet randomly drops. Recently installed bonded DSL service. Need advice or a new modem.
