(!) The system database is invalid.

So, after our storm tonight, I woke up without internet (Frontier FIOS, Los Angeles area). Router is reachable from wired computer and gets an IP (restarted it several times), but there is an ominous warning on top of the page that "The system database is invalid" (see picture). I also notice that the router configuration got reset (default SSID, my forwarding rules missing, etc). Curiously, the router password did not get reset and I was able to go to the admin pages with the password saved in the browser. WAN IP was different to what I typically have but looked valid but differed in the last two octets. Called tech support: restart router again. Problem remains he restarted the ONT remotely while router was turned off. Problem remains. finally, I loaded my last router configuration file (from late 2018). Problem solved. WAN IP as usual again. Lesson: Unless you keep the router at the default, save the good configuration so it can be restored easily. Does anyone have any idea what that "database error" actually means? Is this internal to the router or on their end? (I did not clone the WAN MAC (not even sure if you can). It is the same as on the sticker). My best guess is that something got corrupted on the router and reloading the configuration cleared it up. We did have heavy rains and lightning storms.
