Is this the best way to minimize telephone outage time?

Well, it looks like I'm finally going to have to switch providers. Frontier recently raised my price for Ultimate TV by $10/mo, and my $40/mo Valued Customer Upgrade expires in early Feb 2019. So I expect I'll be switching to Cox at that time. Before FIOS I was Cox subscriber and their coax cable is still attached to my house. So I expect the cutover will be easy. But how to minimize my telephone outage time? As soon as I get hooked up to Cox my Frontier VOIP phone service will stop, and it won't come back until my number is ported over to Cox. I thought about signing up for Vonnage, but even with that I'd still have to wait for the phone number to be cut over. Plus, if I go with Vonnage and port my number from Frontier before the Cox install I expect Frontier will cancel all my services with no warning. I'm thinking my best approach is to order the Vonnage service at the same time I order Cox service, but specify no Cox phone service. Then, when the Cox serivce is installed, set up Vonnage with a temporary number and then use the Frontier call forwarding function to forward my real phone number to the temporary Vonnage number. After verifying that works I can tell Vonnage to take over my real number. That should also terminate my Frontier service - which is my ultimate objective. If anyone has a better idea I'd love to hear it. Thanks.
