I was hoping this forum could help me figure out an appropriate solution to my home layout. I just got Frontier FiOS in Texas (They bought out Verizon FiOS) and I'm being charged to rent the router from them per month. I'm looking to remove that cost from my bill. I already have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem from my Spectrum (Time Warner) apartment, though I believe that won't work here. My ONT is coax and that is already pretty well spread around the house by the previous owners but I plan to run some CAT6 through the attic in the next week or two. I use an HDHR Prime for my main TV but was thinking about using STBs for expansion into bedrooms. Sounds like I'll need some kind of additional hardware to make that work? The technician on the phone mentioned that smart TVs do not need STBs to function, is that accurate? If so, and I place smart TVs in the bedrooms, would I still need this additional piece of hardware to drop the TV signal on the Coax lines?
