[FIOS] adding 2nd router

I have frontier fios internet and TV with actiontec router. I want to add a wireless router for better wireless and also so I can connect a USB hard drive for media sharing. the frontier website shows just 1 acceptable router its an netgear adsl2+. Is this the only router that can be used, does it have to be an ADSL2+ router. If I connect the new router lan to lan and turn off wireless on the actiontec router, can I connect devices to both routers and share between those devices and devices connected wireless, And share media from USB drive to all devices. I have 5 devices that need to connect to wired connection.
